My wife and I drink a lot of water, and just made the switch to purified water and permanent water bottles rather than bottled water. Perfect timing, because Tappening, a supplier of reusable water bottles, is providing a free bottle to the first few trackbacks to a post at Jangro.com.
Switching to water bottles over bottled water can save you money (as much as $10 per gallon versus just pennies per gallon!!) and help save the environment (over 4 billion empty plastic bottles a year). Studies have also suggested that municipal tap water is cleaner than most bottled water (although I grew up on good old-fashioned well water out in the country - I wonder how that compares?!).
Head on over to Jangro, and check out the bottles from Tappening.

I’ve only been using Entrecard for a few days, but already traffic to the blog has spiked, I’ve received my first comments (thanks Blake), and advertisers are lining up.
I do have a few suggestions for anyone who is new to Entrecard:
First, this is a great opportunity for the launch of a new blog. The widget practically guarantees that people will stop by to at least drop off their card, allowing you the opportunity to snag them with your content. So make it good content! Big headlines, pictures, etc. At the same time, visit lots of other blogs to
Second, if a blog that you have been reading has a widget, write a recommendation for that site. This creates some exposure for you and your blog, both to the blogger, and to others who can see the recommendation. You can also do this for new blogs that you’ve just discovered, as long as you have something real to say.
Third, and most important, put your widget as far down your blog as possible! The people who come to visit your blog just to drop a card will have to scroll through the blog to find the widget, and this creates even more opportunity to snag them with your content!
Are you looking for new ideas? Are you curious about the techniques used by the many bloggers who have quit their jobs and are now blogging full-time? I know I was when I was just starting out.
A great place to look for ideas and discussion is the list of “make money online” blogs at 45n5. Called the “Make Money Online Top 100 Blogs”, this list actually includes almost 300 of the most successful blogs in the field.
One thing the site is missing is a single search box that will search all the blogs on the list – that could potentially be very helpful.
November has come and gone, and I figured it was time for an earnings update. I did manage to increase my earnings this month, although the increase from October to November was not nearly as big as the jump from September to October.
Earnings Summary:
It feels like it’s a very long way to $1,000/month, but it also feels like I’m headed in the right direction.
Simply stated, my goal is to make build an online presence (here, and through niche sites) that earns $1,000 a month by January 1, 2009. I’m inviting you to join me as I learn the ups and downs of niche site-building.
This weekend I purchased my first niche domain from Godaddy.com, and added the domain to a hosting account. Future posts will focus on HOW to find a niche (mostly using advice from others - I’m not an expert yet!), and how to research the niche.
I decided to build the site using the following elements:
If money were no option, I would love to try out Build A Niche Store (BANS). Stay tuned though, as I fully plan to purchase BANS in the future, and will share my experience with everyone.
The must useful tool for any blogger, old or new, is arguably other blogs. This is especially true for bloggers who are hoping to make money online. Reading and interacting with other bloggers is a great way to:
To help you get the best information available, I will be presenting a weekly series which highlights a blog which is either popular, or presents information which will help you build your own online presence.
The first blog in this series is TylerCruz.com. Tyler is only 23 years old but has a vast wealth of knowledge to share as a result of his experience building websites and selling advertising. As of this writing, TylerCruz.com is #30 on the “Make Money Online Top 100 Blogs“.
Although I’ve only been a reader of TylerCruz.com for few months, I’ve already adopted some of his recommendations. My favorite is “Putting the Cart Before the Horse“, in which Tyler recommends that bloggers use the Wordpress plugins Optimal Title or All In One SEO Pack, which cause post title to appear BEFORE the name of your blog in the <title> tag. Prior to reading this post, I was unaware that many of the so-called “probloggers” use this format, or that it provides an SEO (search engine optimization) benefit.
In addition to providing content that has already benefited my blogs, the visual format of Tyler’s blog provides a great example for the “make money blogging” community. The logo establishes and promotes Tyler’s distinctive brand. The content is prominently displayed, and other pages (such as About Me, or Archive) are clear and easy to find. And finally, the advertising is targeted and unobtrusive.
I would highly recommend stopping by TylerCruz.com and subscribing to his feed to avoid missing any of Tyler’s advice.
